Implementing a Member Mobile site

The Member Mobile sample site is optimized for mobile devices, such as smart phones and tablets. The content and sitemap is for members who need to access their information on the go. The master page, Sapling, is organized to place the most important information at the top of the screen, and it works with the Aspen Mobile theme, which features styles that are sized appropriately for small screens.

If you want to provide a mobile site for your members, we recommend that you start with a copy of the Member Mobile sample site, and then apply your changes to that. When you make a copy of the site, iMIS creates a copy of the content, sitemap, theme, and master page.

Required steps

1.  Complete your copy of the mobile site. See Copying a website.

2.  From Site designer > Manage sitemaps, select the Member Mobile sitemap. Edit the Full Site navigation item to add your main site’s URL to the Content or URL to Link to.

3.  From Content designer > Manage content, navigate to Mobile/ContentAreas, and edit the Social Networking Images content record. Edit the Content Html iPart, and from the <>HTML tab, update the href’s to link to your social media accounts or remove any links you do not want to appear. From the same content folder, edit the Header Logo content record to add your organization’s logo.

4.  Edit your copy of the Sapling masterpage, located by default in C:\Program Files\ASI\iMIS\Net\Templates\MasterPages, to update the masterFooterCopyright with the name of your organization.

Tips and reminders

■    Trim content — Keep your content simple to make things easier to read on a small screen and decrease the page load time.

■    Automatic redirect — Consider adding some JavaScript to automatically redirect users to the mobile site when they try to access your full site on a mobile device.

■    Add favicon — Update the favicon used for your mobile site, apple-touch-icon, located by default in C:\Program Files\ASI\iMIS\Net.

■    Surf-to-Edit limits — When you access the mobile site, Surf-to-Edit is only available when you access the website from a browser with a width larger than 700 pixels.
